Submission of diploma and bachelor theses

Updated: May 2023

We encourage you to read the faculty information on thesis submissions.

Sample of the first pages of a thesis

  • There is no need to write the major field of study number on the title page of the thesis.
  • If you want the faculty or university logo on the cover or title page, use the new logos.

Dates

Dates of state examinations and the submission of theses

What should the student do

  1. Obtain from the supervisor 1x Thesis Assignment (TA) form, if the student has changed the topic (the "FMFI Thesis Assignment" form from AIS) and obtain all necessary signatures (student, supervisor) on the form.
  2. Ensure that the title of the thesis is identical everywhere - in the AIS, in the thesis assignment, in the PDF of the thesis, in the printed and bound thesis (observe capital and small letters, full stops, commas, lengths, soft letters, language... ). It must not have a full stop at the end.
  3. Submit the thesis to the AIS2 system (electronically submitted thesis contains the thesis assignment (TA) without signature) marking it as final. An electronic attachment (ZIP-file) must be submitted with the bachelor thesis, which must include:
    1. all source files, configuration files, input and output data, unless protected by licenses or privacy rules, up to a reasonable limit (supposedly AIS has a limit of 50MB for the PDF of the thesis and no limit for the attachment, of course, it is not reasonable to upload everything if there is too much),
    2. in addition, the attachment may contain any other appendices to the thesis, technical documentation that is beyond the scope of the thesis text, including additional tables, graphs, records of experiments, analyses, data preprocessing, image and video documentation, all within a reasonable limit
    3. no electronic attachment in the form of a CD ROM or USB stick shall be attached to the printed thesis.
  4. Electronically complete the licence agreement (see FMFI thesis pages, section Submission of thesis in a.y. 2020/21 in times of emergency).
  5. Deliver the following documents to the DAI at least two weeks before the defence (the target in the parentheses is for information only; everything is handed in at once to the secretariat):
    • 1× thesis or 1× bachelor's thesis (for the library archives), unless specified otherwise by the program guarantor
      • bound with thermal binding - spiral binding is not allowed, book binding is useless for the archive
      • containing a title page and a signed thesis assignment
      • it can be printed on both sides.
    • signed thesis assignment (for the archives of the Study Offices), if you have not handed in the TA to the SO when you changed it
      • Please make sure that signatures - originals are always, everywhere only in blue pen, as in the administration the black color is considered a copy.
    • 1× copy of the title page of the thesis (for the archives of the Study Office) - the title page is not identical to the cover of the thesis! (see UK Internal Regulation No. 7/2018)
    • The thesis and documents can be delivered by mail to the FMFI Registrar's Office, or by personal arrangement to Ms. Secretary (Office I-24).
      • Postal address: FMFI UK; Zdenka Slobodová, KAI; Mlynská dolina; 842 48 Bratislava
      • E-mail of the secretary: zdenka.slobodova@fmph.uniba.sk
  6. In addition to the electronic attachment in AIS, you should expect to be able to demonstrate all components of the software work at the defence (valid for bachelor theses), or, for master theses, you might be called by the opponent and supervisor to demonstrate the application and source codes.

After defending the master/bachelor thesis

After defending the thesis, you need to get the form Acknowledgement of Settlement of Liabilities confirmed by the library 1×. This form (after confirmation in the library) should be handed over by the student to the Study Office.

What should the supervisor do

  1. Prior to flagging an assignment in AIS with the "complete" flag': All theses submitted to the Central Thesis Registry (CRZP) must have both primary and secondary language defined - they must be distinct. Most theses will have Slovak as the primary language, in which case the secondary language is English. If the primary language is other than Slovak, the secondary language is Slovak. However, even if neither the primary nor secondary language is English, the title of the thesis must also be entered in English - otherwise it would not be possible to insert an abstract in English. (This is technically provided for in the parameters.) The title of the thesis will therefore also be in two languages. A thesis that does not meet these conditions will be rejected by the CRZP - it will not undergo an originality check and the thesis will be placed in the not imported in CRZP status.
  2. Before the student prints the thesis: Print and hand over to the student the Thesis Assignment, if the student has changed the thesis assignment (form "FMFI thesis assignment" from the AIS2 system with the configuration of signatures 1x student, 1x supervisor, 1x guarantor)
  3. Print and submit to the KAI secretariat a report on the originality of the work from AIS2 (since 2014 provided by KAI)
  4. Submit the supervisor's report, in which he/she comments on the originality protocol (1x, department secretariat, DD.MM.2018 for theses, DD.MM.2018 for bachelor theses)

Tasks of the Department

  1. Ensure that the originality check form is printed. If necessary, ask the student to deliver the thesis (including the originality report) to the supervisor or, if necessary, to the thesis opponent.
  2. To arrange for reviews.
