Online Attendance
The online part of DL 2021 will be conducted over Microsoft Teams. Online participants have been (or soon will be) added to the DL 2021 team created within the home organization of the local organizers – Univerzita Komenskeho v Bratislave. Follow this guide to set up your access.
Accepting the Invitation
You will be informed about having been added to the DL 2021 team by an email sent by “Microsoft Teams”. Do not ignore this email, please. Click the purple Open Microsoft Teams link inside to accept the invitation. If there’s no Microsoft account associated with your e-mail, you will be prompted to create it. Otherwise, you will be asked to sign in your account if you are not signed in already.
Choosing App Version
Once you are signed in, you will be first prompted to download the app, launch it, or use the web app.
- If you will not present any paper at DL, the web app should work fine for you.
- If you will present, the web app will work fine for the initial set up. However, we strongly encourage you to use the desktop app for presenting. The web app cannot share your screen and your camera at the same time, making your talk less engaging.
Selecting Organization
After choosing a version of the app will be prompted to select a Teams organization. Choose Univerzita Komenskeho v Bratislave to get to DL.
If you choose to use the Teams desktop app and you cannot see the org choice, try signing out of Teams and quitting the app completely (do not just close the window, choose Quit from the right-click menu on the app’s taskbar button). Then try signing in again.
If the app misbehaves badly, you can try creating a completely new MS account, send us the associated e-mail address via our MS Teams access form. We will add your new account to the DL team.
DL 2021 Team and Channels
Finally, you should see the DL 2021 team with the content of the General channel, where you can ask for technical support or chat during coffee breaks.
In the left-hand side bar, there are more channels, each devoted to one day of DL 2021. Each of these channels contains sessions that will take place or have already taken place on the respective day. When a session is in progress, you will see a small purple camera icon beside the channel’s name and a purple Join button over the card representing the session within the channel. Each session also has its own chat.
Accessing Channels and Sessions from Detailed Program
If you find the navigation through sessions in the app a bit confusing, you can also use links in the Detailed Program to get to daily channels and to join DL and satellite workshop sessions.
Finally, if you run into problems with the app, the session links in the Detailed Program should provide you with access to the sessions through your browser in a slightly limited mode (chat may be unavailable and you may have to wait for the organizers to let you in).
